Discovery Denim

I was packing a container with photo albums yesterday afternoon and stumbled upon the twins Kindergarten pictures. I can't believe how much they've changed. They've lost their little baby faces and are turning into young men. It's all happening too quickly.

I found Discovery Denim and wished that my boys were little enough to be interested in something from their shop. Two years ago they would have been. Now they only care about their skateboards and xbox. Joy!

At Discovery Denim you'll find a variety of vibrantly colored super hero capes. There's plenty of colors to pick from a bunch of different symbols on the back. You'll even find cuffs and masks for sale that will complete your super hero look. Something like this would make an absolute perfect gift. Great shop!

Bloodbath

I got to speak to the twins on the phone yesterday. Well I talk to them a few times a day because I'm really missing them. Anyhow, Dylan asked me about Halloween. Wow, it's already that time again. They both want to be Vampires. Thanks Twilight.

Halloween means that all the fun bath and body businesses online are putting out their Fall scents and creepy themed items. Lucky for you, there's a company on Etsy called Bloodbath and does the creepy thing all year round.

Surprise your man with this sugar scrub. Mama Boogies "Tasty Testes" Ball Polish will thrill every man, after all I think it's their favorite body part.. no? The description literally has me laughing out of my chair. Check it out and spend some dough. Your man will owe you.

I Want: Going Green II Insulated Lunch Purse

I bring my lunch to work almost every day (and dinner on most days, too), so my lunch box gets lots of use and is starting to look ragged. Also, on the days I have to take two meals, it is awfully hard to fit both lunch and dinner into it. I do not think I would have that problem with this Going Green II Insulated Lunch Purse from The Pattypan Shop. Not only is it roomy and environmentally friendly, it is also extremely stylish. This is definitely the lunch box for the business professional.

Sugarcandie Beauty Bar Giveaway

August Little Black Boxes are on sale today and their wonderful sponsor is none other then my most favorite scrub company Sugarcandie Beauty Bar. Listen, I've tried a majority of the sugar scrubs on the market. Overall, my most favorites thus far have come from this business. They are nice and thick and foam up when used. The scents are unique and the customer service is top notch. If you think you can impress me more then this business I'm welcome to sample yours! Until then Sugarcandie Beauty Bar sits at the top.

Lucky for you, they contacted me wanting to do some giveaways on this blog and today we're giving away a Candy Corn Cupcake sugar scrub. Jealous!

It's valued at $15.95!

Ricki’s Pick of the Week: Double Duty Shower Smoothie from Crater Lake Company

Crater Lake Company has a new product called Double Duty Shower Smoothie which can be used as an in-shower moisturizer or a shaving cream. I use is as a shaving cream, and it is very nice (and moisturizing). It has a thicker lotion-y texture and spreads nicely with just a little bit of a lather. I am currently using a sample I got in Sheer Blueberry. While berries are not my favorite scents (a little too sweet for me in most forms), this one is a sweet blueberry but has a slightly floral undertone which cuts down on the sweetness. (Sorry there is no pic, but CLC does not have one yet).

Labyrinth Vintage

I opened up Etsy today to head towards my favorites and right on the front page was this amazing spoon bracelet that I needed to take another peek at.

I opened it up and it was practically love at first sight. I keep trying to talk myself into making purchases lately but I can't with my move and all. I must stick strongly to a budget and not give into all my shopping cravings. That doesn't mean I can't enable yours though! Let's see new laptop or wonderful spoon bracelet? Laptop wins!

The bracelet is from Labyrinth Vintage. It's inspired from a Japanese comic in which one girl in the story used her mental power to bend the spoon. J'dore!

Purpose ReDesign Studio

I need more storage. Especially if I'm moving back home. I have to try to figure out how to fit my life and it's contents into a 12 by 12 bedroom. Should be interesting when my desk is the size of the bedroom. I'm having trouble trying to figure where I'm going to fit all of my stuff so I've been thinking of compacting it all down into random hiding spots and sending the desk to storage with the rest of my belongings.

At Purpose ReDesign Studio there's this nifty Cottage Craft Crate for sale. It has 3 drawers which would completely allow me to hide the things I don't want the kids finding or my mom snooping through. Wow, I sound like a 16 year old.

The crate is painted in pinks and purples and would go fabulously with the colors in my duvet. This would be just perfect!

Theme: School

School started last week for most here in St. Louis (a few districts went back this week), so I thought it was an appropriate time to feature school-themed items from Etsy:

Balanced

The color yellow is really starting to grow on me. Maybe that Fall is right around the corner and I'm looking forward to seeing the colors change again. There's nothing better then rusty oranges, zesty yellows, and deep reds.

I found some really neat earrings at Balanced. Bold yellow acrylic beads paired with dainty lampwork glass bicones hang from antiqued brass handmade round earwires. The yellow just pops right off the page so I can only imagine what it looks like when you're wearing it.

Another fun thing about this shop is that they are located all the way in Ireland. There's a fun story you can tell people when you're complimented on your new purchase.

Homespun Productions in the Box!

Grubbie candles are always so interesting to look at and they always have a comforting, homey smell. Homespun Productions has some great grubbies, but I love these jar candles of theirs. They look like big grubbies in a jar, and with the cutouts, almost look like real cookie jars. I love Halloween and pumpkin scents, so I think I would have to chose the Halloween Lantern one with all its cute shapes and Pumpkin Cake scent. I suggested buying a TLBB on Friday and hoping for some samples!

L.A. Originals

One of my best friends from back home just announced that she's pregnant and I'll actually get to be home for this baby. I missed out on the 1st one since I was living in Arizona so I'm actually really excited to be able to watch her grow during her pregnancy and also get to hold a little baby again.

Of course I've already started looking through all my favorites that have baby products. I just had to show you the amazing hats from L.A. Originals. I'm a big fan of the Strawberry Sweetness Fruit Hat. It's cold during the winters in Washington so I think this hat would be just perfect for baby or even big sis. Thankfully it comes in a variety of sizes.

So many different styles to pick from too!

SchwidleShop

The town I'm heading back to in Washington is called Sedro Woolley. It's such a funny sounding name, but alas it'll be home. I did a local search on Etsy this morning to see if there's anyone living in the town selling on Etsy and I found 5 people. Only one in particular encouraged me to write and that was SchwidleShop.

These handpainted bird pots really remind me of the twitter bird and the colors are brightly unique. They are 6 inch pots and are painted with high quality acrylic paint then sealed with four coats of weatherproof varnish. While they will withstand the elements out of doors, life indoors will increase the longevity of these smile enducing pots.

The blue one is fabulous. That's the one I want!

3 Things I Would Buy From: Baroque and Roll

I don’t really go anywhere where it would be appropriate to wear a fascinator or a vintage hat, but I do love the look. Baroque and Roll has some great big, feathered hair accessories and I was drooling as I was looking through their shop. My favorites are:

Busy weekend

This past weekend I sent my babies off to grandma's house until I can follow in 3 weeks. I wanted them to start school with all the ends on the 2nd of September and the only time I could arrange for them to head up there was a week before school starts so they are gone now.

It was ROUGH sending them off. I miss them like crazy and I've already found myself looking at the clock trying to figure out how many hours I have until they come crashing through the door. I have to remember that they aren't going to be doing that. It's SO strange. It's only been 3 days but it feels like a million.

I'm excited to head back home. I miss the Greater Puget Sound area. I remember how eager I was to leave it and now I'm actually excited to buy a coat! Yay! A coat! I wandered over to Etsy and did a search on Seattle, this is what I came up with. Enjoy!

Seattle Monster Tee by Man Made Monsters

Seattle Skyline Card by Orange Twist

Flying Fish Print by Nate Duval

I Want: Dog Toy – Braided Canvas Bone

My dog, Susa (a 15-mo old German Shepherd mix), loves knotted toys. Granted, they do not last long, but she loves them. She is fascinated with untying knots, so I know she would have fun with this Braided Canvas Bone from Kim’s Critter Designs. And since this is made with strips of canvas, there will not be strings of rope all over the house afterwards (which are hell on a regular vacuum cleaner). Canvas strips would be so much easier to pick up and Susa (since to her, destroyed toys are just as great as new toys) can have fun with them longer.

Ricki’s Pick of the Week: Stripus Africanis Print

I had to put my foot down when my fiancĂ© mentioned he wanted to hand stuffed animal heads in the basement. While it may be funny, not really the look I want in my house. However, I do have this funny 4x6 print of Stripus Africanis – a zebra beanie baby head – that I do think is cute. I would not mind having a collection of these prints from The Beanie Baby Hunter dotting the walls in our hunting lodge (we are still debating whether it will be American or English, but with the bathroom accessories we go at my shower, it looks like we are going with American) themed basement.

Geniveve's Garden

I found a pretty soap to share with you all from Geniveve's Garden. I figured, what the heck. I don't have much to say about it but I think that you'd be missing out if I didn't take the time to plug a little Vegan goodness, right?

That's right! All items from Geniveve's Garden are Vegan and Cruelty Free. Feel safe knowing that what you are purchasing has the best intentions. This Slippery Stripetti has me raving. It's made from natural olive oil and contains NO parabens or sulfates. Thankfully! You can purchase this scented in either oatmeal cookie or Tea Tree. You pick! Either way you're going to be getting something and approved by me, The Handmade Guru.

Little Beane Boutique

I can't believe that we're already almost through our 2nd week of school. The boys are thriving and things are going well. The only problem I'm having is that I bought matching school supplies and I keep putting the wrong stuff in the wrong backpacks when we are finished with homework. Oy!

Thankfully for me I found the be all end all at Little Beane Boutique. Here you get 12 "BACK TO SCHOOL" stickers that are so great to use for so many different things. Use them to labels all of your child's belongings like school books, school box, crayon boxes.. anything you can think of.

For me, I love that they are personalized with their names on them so that I won't have trouble figuring out who's is who's when they are fighting over stuff. Thank goodness for these!

Theme: Nuns

I realize this is an odd theme, but it just goes to show you what you can find on Etsy. I just did a show last weekend called Nunsense: Amen, which is the original Nunsense musical comedy but with men playing the sisters. Just out of curiosity, I thought I would see if there were any nun items on Etsy, and lo and behold, there were 13 pages worth. Who knew?

Bear Duck Designs

Everyone wants an iPhone. Well, maybe not everyone but a majority of the population at least wants to play with one. I happen to love my Blackberry but if and when iPhone decides to do business with Verizon I'll be one of the first ones lined up to play with my new toy. It's just that popular!

At Bear Duck Designs I can purchase 4 iPhone icon magnets to hold me over until my day is finally here. Decorate your fridge, trash can, mirror, lamp with little icons. The handmade icons measure about 1/2" square and 1/8" tall. They come in a little metal tin, great for gifting.

You know you Apple freaks are all over this! iJustine?

Polka Dot Dandy

I just got done working with Michelle of Polka Dot Dandy all morning. I decided yesterday that enough was enough. I was DONE using Etsy for Whiff and Sniff Candles. It was costing me over a hundred dollars a month to use them and I was practically supplying myself with all the customers.

I started searching yesterday for one of those DIY shopping carts and also a template to use for the site that would give it the feel I've been looking for. The search was virtually painless once I found the template I wanted to use. The only problem is that I wanted different colors. I contacted Michelle and she wrote me back in seconds telling me how it worked.

I have a new site for Whiff and Sniff Candles and it's going to save me money in the long run. It cost me less then $30 dollars for the whole thing as well. I LOVE that! Thank you so much Polka Dot Dandy!

Check out the cool color edits I made to the original template and please don't hesitate to email me about the process!

Lavender Greetings Is in the Box!

I can always find a use for cute note cards. I know tweeting and texting are the ways to communicate now, but I still love to get an old-fashioned card in the mail, and I am sure many people do. I would love to receive one of these cards from Lavender Greetings in the mail (or in this month’s TLBB). I have just run out of Thank You notes, so the Retro Flowers Thank You Set really caught my eye (plus, I love retro). They also have some really cute invitations.

Things That Make Scents

This is the life. Just finished my vanilla Yoplait yogurt and I'm sipping on my iced tea while burning my new candle. I was spoiled rotten yesterday by a certain Janine at Things That Make Scents. You won't believe what she did!

For the past month I've been searching high and low for a black licorice candle. I'm a strange one and us strange ones stick together. I love the scent of anise, sue me! As most of you dry heave I'll carry on..

Anyhow, been searching all over and yesterday a box of promos arrived from Things That Make Scents and inside the box was a giant jar candle scented in black licorice. They call it "Black Cat". Be still my heart! I stopped dead in my tracks! I had been twittering about my hunt for a candle scented like this and she surprised me with one. I burned it for a bit last night and the throw is amazing both hot and cold. I also just lit it a bit ago and it's really stinking up my office. A good stink, got to clarify!

Thank you so much Things That Make Scents! You'll also find them participating in the August Little Black Box. Purchase one for your very own sample from this awesome company.

3 Things I Would Buy from Audrey and Grace

50s style dresses always look fab on me, but, while I do not mind wearing them as costumes, I have a problem wearing vintage on a regular basis – something about the clothes not being new bugs me. That is why these dresses from Audrey and Grace appeal to me so much – they are vintage reproductions tailor-made to fit the customer. Here are some of my favs:

Kogi's Custom Clay

I'm always looking for a fabulous handmade mug. I want a big one that I can sip frothy hot beverages out of during the Fall and Winter time. Especially since I'm moving back to the Seattle area in a few weeks. It's cold there and I'm going to need a hot new mug to keep me warm in the mornings while I blog.

I found Kogi's Custom Clay while browsing a new forum that I joined the other day. Such an amazing find too! I lust for this Dot Color Mug. It's fun and hip just like me and it's priced very moderately. Plus, right now you get 25% off when you purchase.

All of the pieces in this Etsy shop are non toxic and microwave and dishwasher safe which is also very important to me. The less hassle the better.

True love!

I Want: Brush Embroidery Cookies

Aren't these Brush Embroidery Cookies just gorgeous? The way the icing on these cookies lay it does look just like embroidery. I think these are way to pretty to eat, but they do look delicious. I always am leary about ordering food online (and not just because I have a severe peanut allergy). I always wonder how fresh the products will be. SweetAmbs indiviually wraps these cookies are individually wrapped and then heat seals them, so they will stay fresh up to four weeks, which is plenty of time to get them in the mail, admire them, then devour them.

A few weeks ago I wrote about Just Wright Boutique and the sweet little baby keepsake that I lusted for and then lucky for you all Just Wright Boutique sent me a message via twitter saying that they wanted to give away a $30 gift certificate to their shop for one lucky winner. You can pick anything from the shop that you want with your $30! That is so generous! I was absolutely floored by the generosity and I think the winner of this give away will have a blast deciding what they want. Closing Shop?

My original love was bath and body products. I could never have too much or too many lotions, soaps, or scrubs. I belonged to a message board called Makeupalley and being a member of that site created the most intense cravings. I wanted everything. I've had many accounts on that forum for one reason or another.. I used to like to create trouble, so?

I'm a good girl now and it's been gosh, 5-7 years since I actively posted there. It got catty and people like to create trolling accounts for the pure purpose of harassing each other. That's something I'm not typically down with. Someone, on a bash board, once posted that I mail out my candle orders in tampon boxes. Really? Some people have nothing better to do then bring other people down.

I still read Makeupalley on a daily basis. Especially the bath and body board because everyone posts about all the handmade bath and body businesses there. Over there they are referred to as e-tailers and everyone has an acronym. It's sort of confusing at first but after a little while you pick right up.

Well, today I read that so many of my old favorites are closed or going out of business. CherriFlip, who has participated in our boxes, is closing because of the economy. Also, Tickled Pink Scentsations is closing too! I'm so sad about all the closures! Of course, some will say that for everyone closing another is opening but it still upsets me. That was someone's dream! Dreams coming to an end are never good!

Often I'll find myself weeding through my Etsy favorites. You don't even want to know how many pages of favorites I have... There's so many of my old favorites that are closed now and have gone out of business. I cringe.

Basically the moral of this story is that even though the economy is tough and people are hurting people are also still spending money. Start planning ahead for events or if you have that extra $20 bucks laying around. Purchase handmade! Purchase love! Purchase from someone's bread and butter. Handmade is my life. If orders aren't coming in then bills don't get paid. It's what I live for because it's my heart and soul. I firmly believe and stand by the fact that I do NOT need to shop at big brand retail stores any longer because I can find a majority of my needs online with a business that depends on me to survive. I know you can do this too!

Focus on what's really important and not on filling some large corperations pockets. Together we can support everyone handmade. Take a stand.

VonErickson

Creepy and crawly is putting it mildly when it comes to VonErickson. I'm completely freaked out but in one of those feel good ways. I mean, obviously I'm intrigued by everything there is to offer in this shop otherwise I wouldn't be sharing it with you. This shop is crazy cool!

You'll find stitches chokers, oozing blood chokers, and toxic green slime chokers for sale, but the thing that really brought me to making this blog post is the insane coffin couch. Why not enjoy the comfort of the afterlife today? Through the miracle of modern carpentry you too can have your own little piece of heaven. This little gem has a velvet covered thick foam cushion and classic metal spring construction seat. It folds up to a fully shut position.

Now if that doesn't send shivers down your spine I don't know what will.

Theme: Mermaid

Summer is the time to go to the beach. There are wonderful things to see there but, unfortunately, you will not see a real mermaid. Etsy, though, has plenty of mermaid goodness:
