Many of you probably don't know but back in like.. hmm .. 2005 I became really interested in making my own wickless candles because I was spending a ton of money purchasing them and I taught myself how to make them because I was tired of spending the funds to get them to me. That is when Whiff and Sniff Candles was born.
I actually laugh at how horrible my business card was back then and look at how my maiden name is on it. Too funny!
When I moved to Phoenix two years ago I had a nice candle shop but there was no air conditioning in it and there was no way I could make my little scent shooters in a shop that was probably 120+ degrees daily. I closed shop in March 2008 and haven't looked back.
Then today my husband comes to me down and out. The economy is bleak. He works for UPS and they are laying people off left and right. He's miserable and just tired of working for the man. He then tells me that he wants to get the candle business going again and I almost died right then and there. I actually got excited though because the candles were a lot of fun but in the same breathe I could not run both Whiff and Sniff Candles and The Little Black Box. There's only so many hours of the day, right?
We agreed that I would help him get everything going and monitor things and he got the hang of doing it on his own. I mean obviously I was the one that knew what I was doing which is why in the beginning I will have to share all my secrets and wealth of knowledge with him to get things up and running the way it was when I was in charge but I really think it's awfully cute that my strong handsome man wants to do something frilly as making candles. You go boy!
We've been brainstorming all afternoon. He has big plans! Custom stickers and packaging. Amazing logos, banners, and graphics! Custom blends and wholesale accounts. The sky is the limit!
Now I just need to get him on the candle forums so he can start doing his research so we can start out with a bang! I've already contacted my main squeeze Jelene to start on the graphics and I think we're going to take over Etsy's wickless world here in a few short weeks.
